The first date with my high school sweetheart was a disaster, but it didn't deter me from having a great relationship anyways.

Her name was Stacey. We went with my brother and his girlfriend to a fancy restaurant on the side of a mountain. I was too nervous to talk at the beginning of the dinner and let my "cool hand Luke" brother take care of the conversation.

Starting to panic, I asked Stacey if she wanted to go to the salad bar and get something to eat before our meal. We hadn't even had a sentence worth of conversation when I, trying to pick a big piece of watermelon from the salad bar, let my adrenalin get the better of me and ended up flinging a huge piece of watermelon through the air smacking Stacey on the forehead. I watched in horror as the watermelon slowly slid down from her forehead and eventually fall to the floor.

Tom Cruise I was not that evening. But I learned a valuable lesson is relationships. You can make a complete fool out of yourself and give up, or you can just kick the watermelons under the salad bar and start over.
