Question of the Week
Week of 02/12/07
Q: I'm facing big decisions in the near future. College. Career. Marriage. And hopefully in that order. What one piece of advice would you give to someone making decisions that will impact the rest of their life?
A: One suggestion would be to seek the counsel of others. Input. Input. Input. Getting advice from the right people is a key to success.
I discovered early in my adult years that my personality leaned toward making snap decisions without even noticing the wisdom God had placed within my reach. Many mentors and friends along the way could have saved me from making some horrible decisions, if I would have taken advantage of their counsel. I realize life often calls for quick decisions and I would never suggest to tarry and prayer over what kind of breakfast cereal you will eat. But many times we forget to seek out godly counsel on the "biggies."
Proverbs 13:10 says, "…wisdom is found in those who take advice." You have access to many people around you at all stages of your life. Avoiding counsel from pastors, teachers, friends, and family members, who love God can prove costly. Surround yourself with wise people.
Blessings!
