BLESSING A CHILD
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. Psalm 127:3
Today, as in centuries past, orthodox Jewish homes bestow a special family blessing on their children. This blessing, which is much like the patriarchal blessing Isaac bestowed upon Jacob, has been vital in providing a sense of acceptance for generations of children.
You don't need to be Jewish to value children and give them a blessing. You don't even have to be a parent. Although parents hold a responsibility to bless their children, anyone can change a child's life. They can give a child a blessing by caring enough to express acceptance, model commitment, and picture a special future. In giving children the blessing, we help insure that they will carry the heritage of love.
| Do you know children who need a blessing from you? Besides your own children, consider their friends. Also remember children in your church, in your neighborhood, and the children of your friends.
