STICKS AND STONES

Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.
James 3:10

Do you remember the old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?" It's a lie.

As most of us learn too quickly, words can hurt. They can wound us deeply, destroy friendships, even rip apart a home or marriage. On the other hand, words have a unique power to build us emotionally, as well as to comfort and encourage. Words have the power to bless.

If you are a parent, your children desperately need to hear a spoken blessing from you. If you are married, your wife or husband needs to hear words of love and acceptance on a regular basis. This very week as you spend time with a friend, a co-worker, or someone at your church, you will rub shoulders with someone who needs to hear a word of encouragement. Speak up!

Think about a specific person in your life who could us a spoken work of blessing from you. Write down what you can say to that person and mark on your calendar (within the next week) a day and time to say it.
